Are Dental Implants Really Worth Your Investment And Time?

Updated: Oct 26, 2020

Here at Sheen Dental our highly experienced team has been helping clients with dental implants in Richmond for many years, and one of the many questions that clients constantly ask us is “just how good are they?” The answer we always give is that if looked after correctly, implants are an extremely efficient and permanent solution to your dental problem. But are they really worth your investment and your time? Let’s take a look…

Dental Implants Richmond

Lengthy process

There’s no getting away from the fact that the procedure for fitting dental implants is a lengthy one. In fact on average it can take somewhere between 3-9 months from initial consultation to the final fitting of the crowns. This is because there has to be healing time between each of stage of the process. Firstly an evaluation of bone density and quality are carried out to ensure that bone will regenerate and grow around the implant (this is known as osseointegration). Secondly the implant procedure itself is carried out, where a screw-like titanium rod is placed into the jaw bone. Healing time is then needed so that the implant becomes secure and durable. Next the abutment is fitted. This is the piece that slots on to the titanium post, and finally… the last stage is the fitting of the crown itself.

Expensive treatment

Dental implant surgery is a costly operation and although it varies in price from one practice to another and from country to country, the process doesn’t come cheap. What you’re really paying for is the expensive materials used in the procedure such as titanium, porcelain and other materials such as semi-precious metals; the time taken to carry out the treatment; and the knowledge and skill of the dental team who’ll fit your implants. In addition, you may also be required to undergo a complex bone grafting procedure prior to the implant surgery.

So the reality is that whether you undertake a dental implant in Richmond, or anywhere else in the country, it’s going to take up a lot of your time and indeed your cash. So is it still worth it?

The answer has to be yes and the reason for this is simple! The incredible benefits you’ll get from having a permanently restored smile, renewed self-confidence and a greater level of self-esteem, far outweigh the time and cost factors. In addition dental implants will allow you to….

  • Talk without worrying about your speech

  • Eat what you like when you like

  • Gain a new tooth or set of teeth with minimal or no discomfort

  • Have teeth that never need replacing as long as you maintain good oral hygiene
