You’ve probably heard numerous times that prevention is better than cure. Just like any type of prevention for the maintenance of good health, dentistry focuses on preventing dental problems rather than looking at ways to fix them. Preventive dentistry is particularly important for children. Teaching your child to take good care of their teeth and gums at a young age will eventually pay off. It is best to set a good example by following a good hygiene routine and by visiting the dentist regularly for check-ups and cleanings.
At Sheen Dental, we promote preventive dentistry starting as soon as your child’s first teeth begin to appear. This can happen as early as four months to as late as 18 months. We encourage our patients to bring their children along with them and we aim to create a friendly and stress-free environment for all our little friends. During each dental examination, our dentist in SW14 will examine carefully and gently your children’s teeth and gums, offering dietary and tooth cleaning advice. Depending on the needs of your little one, your SW14 dentist will suggest an age-appropriate oral hygiene programme. Older children can benefit from fluoride applications and fissure sealants.
Our services
Tooth cleaning and polishing are standard treatments that all our little patients can benefit from at our dental practice. However, there are much more we can do to help keep their teeth healthy. For example, our dentist in SW14 can suggest fluoride treatment or sealants in order to protect your child’s teeth from tooth decay.
Fluoride is a natural mineral we consume on a daily basis, usually found in tap water and toothpaste. Fluoride varnish, on the other hand, is a safe substance used by many dentists around the word to help prevent tooth decay in children. We will only use a small amount on your child’s teeth, ensuring that no fluoride is swallowed. As soon as it hardens, their teeth will be protected from gum disease.
Similarly, to help prevent cavities, we also offer dental sealants by painting a special liquid that hardens into a thin coating over the chewing surfaces of our little patients’ teeth. Dental sealants are easy to apply and provide years of protection.
