Professional teeth cleaning carried out by your hygienist

When you visit us at Sheen Dental we want to make sure that you smile through life for as long as possible before needing to potentially consider treatments to enhance your smile’s qualities. Having regular check-ups and professional cleans can help when it comes to keeping your gums healthy and preventing tooth loss. Our hygienist Richmond will not only carry out a professional clean, but they will also explain to you how you can use a range of brushing and flossing techniques to make cleaning your teeth easier. If you do not attend regular appointments and stay on top of your brushing regime, then there is a higher chance of you experiencing something like gum disease, which can result in tooth loss and require additional dental attention, ending up costing you more.

Arranging an appointment is simple

If you believe that you could benefit from an appointment with our hygienist Richmond then arrange a time that is convenient for you to come into our practice, Sheen Dental. This can be done from within our practice, by giving us a call or by going online and booking through our website. In some cases if you attend our dental practice for a regular check-up your dental practitioner may inform you that it is time to make an appointment before you realise it. Sometimes people can be seen on the same day after their check-up for further hygienist treatment, but if this is not convenient you can book an appointment for a time that is.

A quick scale and polish can keep gum disease at bay

When you attend an appointment with our hygienist Richmond they will carry out a treatment often referred to as a scale and polish. During this treatment they will carefully remove all of the plaque and tartar that has become hardened to the surfaces of your teeth and built up within the pockets of your gums. This hardened plaque is not able to be removed through straightforward brushing, but it is important to have it removed to avoid further build-up. Your practitioner will go along the lines of your gums on both the fronts and backs of your teeth, leaving your mouth feeling much cleaner when you leave our practice.

What you can do at home to help your teeth

To maintain a good level of oral hygiene it is important to be cleaning your teeth properly. This means that you should be brushing your teeth twice a day, once first thing in the morning and again at night before you go to sleep. Your dental practitioner will be able to recommend a good mouthwash if you are not already using one, and this should be used twice daily, ideally after you have brushed your teeth. Flossing needs to be something that is integrated into your cleaning regime as well. This prevents build-up between your teeth and in small areas that brushing cannot reach, like the pockets of your gums. Having an efficient cleaning routine can help prevent gum disease and make sure that you have a full smile for longer.
