Oral health tips from your hygienist in Richmond

Keeping your teeth looking their best can be harder than it looks if you don’t have the right routine. Regular maintenance and upkeep of your pearly white pals is the only way to avoid problems with cavities, disease and other oral complications.

Since some people still struggle with finding a regime for their teeth, here we have a few tips to get you started in the right place.

Brush often

Your hygienist in Richmond or any dentist for that matter will tell you how vitally important it is that you brush regularly. Regular cleaning of your teeth helps to reduce bacteria and plaque and helps you to avoid other oral health issues further down the line.

It’s generally recommended that you brush your teeth at least twice a day, once in the morning and before you head to bed. If you can fit more sessions in after your meals that couldn’t hurt, as long as you’re managing a good clean at least twice a day.

Introduce mouthwash and floss

Why not add to your routine by introducing mouthwash or floss. These are perfect for getting into those hard to reach areas between your teeth and amongst your gum line to remove plaque and help with bad breath. There are a lot of brands to choose from, but try asking your hygienist in Richmond for advice on the best place to start.

Although, if you do decide to add floss and mouthwash try to be gentle with the floss, as it can damage your gums if used too vigorously. Whilst with the mouthwash we recommend you try to stay away from the strong chemical brands as those can damage your enamel if you’re not careful.

Visit the practice often

It really can not be stressed enough how important it is that you keep up regular appointments with the practice. Coming in for check-ups lets us keep an eye on your teeth and if there are any issues that you need to be aware of. Because at Sheen Dental we pride ourselves in making sure you’re equipped with all the facts you need to know to keep your smile shining for years to come. So, come on by as often as you can. Plus, there’s the added benefit of being able to enjoy a good clean from our dental team.

Consider an electric toothbrush

Although you can still get a good clean with a manual brush, for that proper deep clean you might want to consider trading up for an electric brush. They may be noisy, but their vibrating bristles are great at breaking up plaque and tartar that build up between your teeth. They can reach into areas you can’t manage with a manual brush and there are a lot of different brush brands to choose from.

So, if you’re looking to improve your oral health routine then try a few of the changes we mentioned. Just one little change could be key to making your smile last a little longer.
