Modern dentistry has a strong focus on preventive dentistry, and nowhere more so than at Sheen Dental, your dentist in Richmond.
The aim of preventive dentistry is to keep teeth healthy and strong, so that they do not need to have problems fixed.
It’s a change from the dentistry a few decades ago. Sixty, seventy years ago, people didn’t want to have problems fixed either, but they solved it (or thought they did) by simply having all their teeth removed and replaced with a set of full dentures. Their teeth never needed fixing again, but their jawbones shrank away instead.
Having great oral health has become even more important since cosmetic dentistry became readily available. After all, there’s no point in investing in veneers, or cosmetic braces if the teeth themselves are suffering from decay and gum disease. So, in modern dentistry, it is very much that health must come before beauty.
If you register as a new patient with Sheen Dental, your first examination with us will cost only £38. As your new dentist in Richmond will want to know as much about your dental history as possible, so expect an in-depth examination of your teeth, gums, jawbone, tongue and mouth. We may need to take x-rays to see inside your teeth. We will also want to talk about hopes you have for your teeth.
Hopefully, your examination will show that you are in A1 oral health, but if there is some work that needs to be done to get your mouth in tip-top shape, you can have:
Fillings
White fillings are now stronger than ever, and far more pleasing, looks-wise, than amalgam.
Root canal therapy
It’s unlikely you will need root canal therapy, unless you join us when you have an emergency toothache caused by an infection in a tooth. This is when bacteria have found their way into the pulp of the tooth, infecting it and causing even more pain as the pressure inside the tooth increases. Your Richmond dentist will numb the area, clean out the infected pulp and then fill the root before sealing it.
When you are good for cosmetic dentistry, we are brilliant at that too. So come on in!
