Updated: Oct 26, 2020

Restorative dentistry is the process in which teeth are rebuilt in the mouth, and teeth are repaired, so that they can carry out their intended function. Restorative dentistry can heal any form of tooth loss, whether it is caused by disease and decay, or injury to the teeth. Sheen Dental in Richmond has some excellent facilities that are designed for rebuilding and reshaping smiles, no matter what the problem is.

Missing teeth

A tooth that is missing can be unsightly, and dangerous to your oral health. Therefore, it is important to address the issue head on, which is why we will provide an excellent consultation to give you your best options. Many issues will each have a different solution, so it is important that you come for a consultation to make sure that you know exactly what treatment you are after.

There is no best way to replace a tooth, and in all cases will depend on the severity of the loss. If the root of the tooth remains, then a crown will work as an effective replacement, with very little cost and risks. However, in more complex cases, you may consider a bridge or a set of dentures, and maybe even a dental implant.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are one of the most advanced ways to replace a tooth that is missing; as well as being one of the most effective ways. Dental implants can also be extremely expensive for this very reason, so it is crucial that you consider all the pros and cons of the treatment before you undergo it. You will be advised by your dentist whether it is the right option for you in a consultation, so do not feel anxious if you cannot yet decide. Sheen Dental in Richmond offers this advanced treatment, so if you are interested, please contact us for more information.

How do dental implants work?

Dental implants work by first opening up the gum and drilling a neat hole into the jawbone, using a variety of specially designed drills. Then the implant is inserted into the hole, to replicate a root of a tooth. This is shaped from specially designed titanium and will be secured firmly into the jawbone. Once the implant has been inserted, then it is left for a set period of time, depending on each patient. This is to allow the bone to grow around the implant, securing it in place, and essentially fusing it with the jawbone. Once the implant is secure, then a crown can be added onto the tooth to complete the treatment. Dental implants are an extremely secure solution for providing a foundation to other treatments such as bridges and dentures, and once they have been put in, will most likely last for a lifetime.

Dental implants can be expensive, however, due to their longevity and effectiveness, they can be a lot more cost efficient than other treatments, which may need replacements. If you are interested in dental implants, Sheen Dental in Richmond offers this service and we will be happy to advise you on any queries that you might have.
