Do You Think You’re Too Nervous to Have Dental Implants? We Might Be Able to Help

Tooth loss can occur due to a number of different reasons which includes trauma, tooth decay or periodontal disease which is advanced gum disease. While some people might have teeth knocked out in accidents, it’s far more common to lose them to disease. This is something that can result from a lack of regular dental care, and is quite often due to people being too nervous to visit the dentist. This can make it a real problem when receiving regular dental care and it might be even more of an issue if you’d like to have dental implants in Richmond.

Dental Implants Richmond

Sheen Dental is all too well aware there are many people who’d like to restore their smile using dental implants but are fearful over even visiting the dentist in the first place, let alone having the actual procedure. The good news is that we are extremely experienced in helping nervous patients and can help control fears and anxieties with conscious sedation.

Conscious Sedation to Keep You Comfortably Relaxed

This is a process that will keep you comfortably relaxed during treatment but you’ll still be aware of your surroundings and will be able to fully cooperate with our dental team. It’s a great way to receive dental care to help restore your oral health and to help restore your smile. It’s perfect if you have quite a few teeth that need to be extracted or which have already been lost and you know you’d like them replaced with dental implants in Richmond.

This type of sedation isn’t offered by every dentist as it does require additional training and equipment, and our dentists will make sure you’re fully monitored at all times during treatment so it’s very safe. Our dentists will need to take down your medical history beforehand to make sure conscious sedation is the correct course of action.

Conscious sedation is administered intravenously, and one of the main advantages of this is that the dentist can continually adjust the amount of sedation during dental implant surgery so you will be completely comfortable at all times. You will feel drowsy and relaxed, and it will seem as if your appointment is over in a matter of minutes. Afterwards it can take quite a few hours before the sedative to wear off, and you need someone with you to drive you home and to stay with you for the rest of the day. You won’t be able to drive a car for 24 hours afterwards and you shouldn’t operate any machinery or drink alcohol.

Are You Only Mildly Anxious? Laughing Gas Might Be the Solution

If you only feel mildly anxious then conscious sedation might be a bit too much and you may be better off having laughing gas which is a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen. It’s extremely safe and takes effect within just a couple of minutes. Once you stop breathing in nitrous oxide then it’s soon eliminated from your body and you’ll be able to drive yourself home.
