Let your smile shine, thanks to our quality dentist in Richmond

Evolving smiles

Here at Sheen Dental, we recognise that we are living in an increasingly image conscious world. As more and more of our daily lives are documented and shared with the outside world, there has been an increased focus and attention paid to our facial and dental aesthetics in order to portray an image of health and beauty. This trend has spurred more people than ever, from all age and social demographics, to become actively involved with cosmetic dentistry to boost their oral health and the brightness of their smiles. Here at Sheen Dental, we welcome this evolution in the perception of dentistry, and are proud to be a dentist in Richmond who are at the forefront of this new trend.

Historically, a trip to the dentist was generally viewed as something to be avoided, and the cause of a great deal of anxiety for many. Today it is something which is actively encouraged. One of the most popular forms of cosmetic dentistry, which we’ve noticed a spike in interest around here at Sheen Dental, is dental veneer treatment. Veneers are a permanent solution to a number of cosmetic issueswhich can affect a patient's teeth, such as superficial staining, chips and breaks, or teeth which are slightly misaligned or have large gaps between them. Veneers work by bonding a wafer thin layer of porcelain to the front of a patient's teeth, resulting in a more cohesive and together looking smile. The process of receiving veneers typically involves three trips to our practice in Richmond. The first of these is a consultation which is done to establish your eligibility for the procedure, and explain how you could benefit from treatment. Upon your second visit, the enamel on your teeth would be trimmed off and filed down slightly to prepare your teeth for the veneers. This would be done whilst you are anesthetized through local anaesthetic. Then an impression will be made of the contours and unique shape of your teeth, from which the veneers will be created. Finally, upon your third visit to our practice, the veneers will be bonded to the front of your teeth with a permanent dental bonding solution and thus your teeth will appear more together, whiter and more cohesive on a permanent basis.

Filling in the gaps

Another form of cosmetic treatment which we provide here at Sheen Dental, and which is vastly popular with patients of all ages,is the installation of white fillings. These are used in cases when a patient's tooth has become decayed and requires cleaning and filling with a dental filling agent. Typically, fillings are a procedure which adults will have to endure at least once within their lifetime. NHS funded fillings are known as silver amalgam fillings, and are constructed from a metal couloured filing agent. A rising amount of patients here at Sheen Dental are opting for white fillings. These are fundamentally similar to silver amalgam fillings, only they are constructed from a far stronger and more permanent bonding agent. Additionally, they are white coloured, and specifically color matched to the pigment of the patient's surrounding teeth to the point they are practically invisible within their teeth - thus patients can smile freely without exposing large areas of grey within their mouths.
