3 Reasons Why Dental Implants Are So Popular

Here at Sheen Dental we’ve been fitting dental implants in Richmond for many years and during that time we’ve experienced a huge rise in people wanting to undergo treatment for implants. Although they’ve been around in one form or another for over 50 years, it’s only recently (over the last 10-15 years) that the implant industry has really taken off. So much so in fact that in the UK alone over 10,000 implants are placed each and every year and this figure is set to rise. So this begs the question, aside from the obvious benefits of being the only real permanent solution to tooth replacement, why are dental implants so popular?

Dental Implants Richmond

Coincides with the information revolution

It’s no secret that the popularity in dental implants has coincided with the meteoric rise of the internet. Nowadays people have access to a plethora of information regarding how implants can benefit them and what the implant procedure entails as well as costs involved. As a result potential clients aren’t quite so sceptical about the procedure and are better positioned to make informed decisions about their oral health.

Technological advances

Over the last decade or so technological advances in manufacturing have made implants easier to produce and even as we speak (or write) scientists are searching for cheaper alternatives to titanium. As a result although dental implants are still expensive especially when you compare them to other forms of tooth replacement, they have come down in price and are likely to continue to do so in the future as popularity rises.

Implant capabilities are becoming much better known

It’s only really now that the longevity of a successful implant is being well documented. Twenty years ago the permanency of an implant was very much still in question and as such a fixed bridge or removable denture would have been more of a standard procedure. Now however, twenty years on, implants first placed by oral surgeons are still going strong today, so their longevity is no longer in question. Because of this there has been a huge switch in dynamic as more patients are now choosing the dental implant. In Richmond for example here at Sheen Dental the implant is becoming the norm rather than the exception.
