When Can I return To My Job after Dental Implant Surgery?

Whether you undergo dental implants in Richmond or indeed anywhere else in the country one of the major factors attributed to them is convenience. This extends to both the treatment and recovery processes too. For patients who are looking to avoid significant disruptions to their professional and personal lives following implant placement this is an added bonus.

But what about the surgical process?

Whilst it’s true that dental implants do require a surgical procedure it’s generally a straight forward process that takes a few hours. Performed in the dental clinic the patient is placed under a local anaesthetic and many clinics also use conscious sedation techniques. These results in a pain-free procedure whereby the patient is awake so that they can easily respond to the needs of the dentist but at the same time remain relaxed and care-free.

What about recovery?

As you’d expect from any type of surgery there is a period of recovery needed. However it’s often a lot shorter that people might think. Patients will be able to east soft foods the day after the surgical process and depending upon their job can return to work in as little as one -two days.

So is there a caveat?

Unfortunately this may not be the same for everyone and those who have undergone other implant related procedures such as sinus and bone grafts, immediate implant placement after tooth extraction and a ridge split osteotomy, may need a longer recovery period. This is something that your dentist will advise you on.

In addition in a small minority of patients there may be complications that have arisen which may also interfere with your regular routine. For this reason it’s best to follow instructions that your dentist has given you with regard to cleaning and maintenance, post operative care and ongoing activities such as exercise and eating; all of which can play a big part in aiding a speedy and most importantly,  a healthy recovery.

Whether you have a consultation with a specialist dealing in dental implants in Richmond, or Harley Street per se, then they will put together a unique and tailored treatment plan. This not only details the timescales for fitting, including surgery and interim recovery between stages, but also best practices to aid a speedy recovery. If you can follow this to the letter and provided that there are no complications, then there’s no reason why you can’t return to work and/or resume your normal activities within a very short period of time. In many cases that is often as little as a 2-3 days after surgery.
